Big changes are coming for the Apple Watch Series 7, as new rumors indicate the lineup will include a flatter and larger display than its predecessors. If true, this would represent the first major size shift since the Series 4 released in 2018.

Rumors have been swirling for months now, with sources such as Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman claiming the lineup will feature “a bit of a redesign” and YouTuber Jon Prosser saying the watch will come with a flat design. The latest buzz about increased dimensions comes from a Bloomberg report by Gurman released Thursday that claims we can expect the Series 7 to be available in 41mm and 45mm case sizes, as opposed to the current selection of 40mm and 44mm dimensions.

Just last week, fans were rather disappointed with the release of some clone renders shared by leaker Majin Bu on Twitter that featured a fairly clunky and bulky appearance. Following all the rumors about a change in design, the initial appearance did not live up to expectations to say the least, though it seems they are not very representative of what we can actually expect to see.

9to5Mac argued that the $60 clone renders were just being produced based on rough schematics and exist mainly for case makers. The site feels confident the actual Series 7 will boast a much smoother transition between the display and the casing, as is evident in other Apple tech products. Though we can’t be sure if their speculation is correct until we have official confirmation from Apple, we shouldn’t give up hope yet that the new series will remain as elegant as ever.

Other Rumored Upgrades

The Apple Watch Series 7 is rumored to be even faster than the models on the shelves right now. Apple has remained consistent in updating its Apple Silicon with each new release, and we don’t have any reason to believe they would stop this trend with the Series 7. If true, that would make the new lineup even faster than the Series 6.

Falling in line with the rumors about an increased display size, further speculation from leaker Max Weinbach indicates the new watches will use new bands that may not be compatible with older watch models. And according to some leaked photos and renders courtesy of Prosser in collaboration with Twitter user @RendersbyIan, it seems they may be released in black, silver, red, blue and green colors.

Fans were excited for awhile about rumors of a glucometer being added into the Series 7, but a Bloomberg report crushed those dreams, claiming that the technology will likely not be ready in time for the Series 7. Though we may not be able to enjoy improved blood sugar tracking with the next Apple Watch, it’s likely still in the process of being worked into future technology and users can look forward to it likely being available in 2022 or 2023.

When the Watch Will Hit Shelves

According to a report made Tuesday, it seems likely that the release date for the Series 7 has been delayed because of production issues. Analyst and respected leaker Ming-Chi Kuo has hinted in the past that Apple will be releasing a new watch lineup in the second half of 2021, but even if these were the company’s initial plans, it seems they may have run into a road bump.

In 2020, Apple opted to stagger the launch of the iPhone 12 in order to ensure people could buy it once it went on sale, so it’s probably safe to assume they will do the same with the Series 7. We still expect to see the watch lineup to be unveiled at an Apple event September 14th, though its actual release may be delayed or have limited stock as a result of the production issues.

How Much Will the Series 7 Cost?

Apple tends to remain pretty consistent in their pricing upon release for new watch models, though it’s unclear if they will adjust their prices for the new rumored display sizes. From past experience, the 40mm watch with GPS has been released at $399 while the price increased to $429 for its larger 44mm companion.

Back in 2018 when Apple increased their display sizes with the Series 4, they did not opt to increase the price as well. Unless they decide to change up their pricing scheme with the Series 7’s larger display, we can operate under the assumption that they will remain consistent with the prices that have worked for them in years past.
